Join us to celebrate three exciting voices in North Eastern poetry as John Challis, Jo Clement and Jake Morris-Campbell read from their new collections.

The living and the dead are working side by side in John Challis’s dramatic debut collection, The Resurrectionists (Bloodaxe Books). Whether in London’s veg and meat markets, far below the Dartford Crossing, or on the edge of the Western world, these poems journey into a buried and sometimes violent landscape to locate the traces of ourselves that remain. John Challis is the author of the pamphlet, The Black Cab and is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize and a Northern Writers’ Award.

Moveable Type is the debut pamphlet from Jo Clement. Appleby Horse Fair in Cumbria is the largest annual gathering of Gypsies and Travellers in Europe. As a child, Jo Clement visited the fair each year with her Grandad Jack. In this moving homecoming, the poet travels alone to the fair to reflect on the poetics and politics of Gypsy identity. Dr. Jo Clement is a writer and Managing Editor and Creative Director of Butcher’s Dog poetry magazine. She is the recipient of a Northern Writers’ Award and her poems have been shortlisted for the Bridport, Melita Hume, and Troubadour International prizes.

Jake Morris-Campbell’s debut collection of poetry, Corrigenda for Costafine Town, will be published by Blue Diode Press in November 2021. He was recently selected as a BBC/AHRC New Generation Thinker.

This event will have Stagetext live captions.
