The renowned philosopher Mary Midgley was born in 1919 and for much of her illustrious career was based here in the North East of England.

In this session, Durham University’s Andrew Gray and Ellie Robson will introduce some of Mary’s unpublished writing on space travel and discuss some of her biggest ideas: from addressing our relationship with the biosphere in our back garden before further colonising space, to what it means to be human.
