Governments the world over have been repeatedly tested and stretched. They have set new rules and norms to try to re-establish confidence and give economies a chance of survival. Although it is understandably difficult to contemplate other hazards in the midst of this outbreak, it is important to remember that we face another major crisis that threatens human prosperity—and human existence – climate change.  COVID-19 has been called a dress rehearsal for entrepreneurial approaches to climate change.

This pandemic provides an opportunity to address emergencies such as climate change, green businesses and promoting green energy more effectively.

Dr Joanna Berry is Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship in the Business School.

New Ideas for the New Normal is a series of newly commissioned video essays from leading researchers and academics at Durham University. Each tenminute piece considers how we might live now in a post-pandemic world, offering hope and fresh new ideas across a range of disciplines.
