Meet the characters from our Durham Book Festival Little Read: Greta and the Giants! In this special drawing event, illustrator Zoe Persico will show you how she brings her characters to life.

Greta and the Giants retells the story of Nobel Peace Prize nominee Greta Thunberg – the Swedish teenager who has led a global movement to raise awareness about the world’s climate crisis for very young children.

Greta is a little girl who lives in a beautiful forest threatened by Giants. When the Giants first came to the forest, they chopped down trees to make houses. Then they chopped down more trees and made even bigger homes. The houses grew into towns and the towns grew into cities, until now there is hardly any forest left. Greta knows she has to help the animals who live in the forest, but how? Luckily, Greta has an idea… A section at the back explains that, in reality, the fight against the ‘giants’ isn’t over and explains how you can help Greta in her fight.

Durham Book Festival has distributed 1,700 free copies of Greta and the Giants throughout County Durham, including at least one copy to every primary school and nursery setting in the County. *Find out more* about the Little Read 2020.

We also have an exciting story time event with the book’s author Zoë Tucker.

Suitable for ages 3+

This event is part of the Durham Book Festival 2020 Schools Programme, but open to all parents and children to enjoy.
