EVENT REVIEW: My First Gig with Field Music

11 October 2018

6th October, 2018

Gala Theatre Studio

Review by Marta Nowak

Starting the gig experience early, kids of many ages along with their families showed up to an event of adventure and exhilaration. This included some fresh renditions of much-loved children’s songs like the Postman Pat theme, Baby Shark, and the Fox’s Socks theme.

The Mercury Prize-nominated group Field Music played their hearts out as they were joined at the front by numerous children playing blow-up guitars and showing off their painted faces – from Iron Man to unicorns and butterflies – topped off with a magical amount of glitter. The children’s faces lighting up under the bright colours of the disco ball was enough to melt your heart – and stroll to the dance floor to join them. The gig truly connected everyone through their love for upbeat songs that they are likely hearing everyday (unless they aren’t a fan!). The band anticipated this might be the case before they sang Baby Shark, and they cheerfully warned people over the age of four that they might like to leave the room for that song.

One of the highlights of the event was the band’s interaction with the audience, putting them in the mood of the song by letting them expand their imagination and become the characters. All in all it was an uplifting, joyful couple of hours of family fun!
