The Big Read, a morning with David Almond

We are thrilled to announce that David Almond is coming to Durham for a very special schools event. The Carnegie  Medal winning author of Skellig and The Fire Eaters will share his lifelong passion for storytelling, and one  particularly exciting book…

Half a Creature from the Sea is a magical collection of short stories, chosen to be this year’s Big Read for the Durham Book Festival. Set in familiar locations around the North East, these tales of poltergeists, monsters, and mysterious sea creatures, show how even the most ordinary life can become extraordinary.

David Almond is as well known for his enthusiastic engagement with his readers as for the amazing books themselves. This event is not to be missed.

As part of the Big Read, each child can receive a FREE copy of the book as well the opportunity to meet the author himself, and hear the secrets behind these captivating stories. See back cover for details.

Suitable for ages 10+
Themes: The North East, Storytelling, Magic Realism, SMSC.
