Join Lissa Evans as she discusses her Orange Prize-longlisted novel, Their Finest Hour and a Half, which is now a major film starring Gemma Arterton and Bill Nighy.
It’s 1940. Catrin Cole writes snappy lines for an advertising agency. But the nation is in peril and there’s a place in the war effort for those who have a knack with words.
Catrin is conscripted into the world of propaganda films, writing for a touching but largely fabricated ‘true story’ about romance on the beaches of Dunkirk. As bombs start to fall in London, she will discover that there’s just as much drama behind the scenes as there is in front of the camera.
Lissa Evans has written several acclaimed books for adults and children, including Small Change for Stuart and Crooked Heart. Lissa will be sharing film clips from Their Finest during the event.
