This is a chance to see, handle, and discuss wartime magazines and journals from the Palace
Green and Newcastle City Library collections. We have gathered together a range of little-seen
periodicals to investigate how people wrote about the First World War while it was taking place. You can enjoy astonishingly funny trench newspaper The Growler from the Northumberland Fusiliers, and explore the photographs and illustrations in The War Illustrated. These and other publications offer us a fascinating glimpse into the way the war was pictured and understood as it developed.
