In his new book The North, journalist and author Paul Morley gets to the heart of what life is like above the M25. Morley maps the entire history of northern England through its people and the places they call home to show that the differences go deeper than just an accent. Paul Morley has worked as a music journalist, pop Svengali and a broadcaster, and will be joined by author and broadcaster Michael Smith to talk about why it’s still interesting to write about the North. Michael Smith’s latest book is Unreal City. He is the writer and presenter of BBC4’s A Journey Back to Newcastle: Michael Smith’s Deep North and is a regular contributor to BBC2’s The Culture Show. Chaired by Emma Jackson.
Their discussion will be followed by the first screening of Michael Smith and Neil Bianco’s newly commissioned short films about the North East, Another England.
